Briolette
The Briolette Cut was invented in the late 15th
century by the father of modern diamond
cutting, the Flemish diamantaire, and scientist
Louis Van Berquem
. Back in 17th
Century
Briolette cut become famous and was well known for its royalty and aristocracy. Briolette
Cut is a drop
shape Elongated Faceted Pear Shape which usually had a
cross
drill
on the
top
. There are no specific number of facets to make a briolette cut, the more facets,
brighter it will appear. Facets on briolette cut are generally in diamond shape or triangular
sh
ape, there is no top or crown or pavilion for briolette.
Though Briolette is one of the
different shape to cut in diamonds, it comes in all kinds of color, clarity and sizes. One of
the largest briolette diamond 75.36 Carats D color, ever sold was at the c
hristie’s auction
in 2013 for $11.2 Million, Popularly known as ‘Briolette Of India’.

Rose cut diamonds Resembles the shape of a Rose Bud. Rose cut Diamond are different than the
traditional brilliant cut. Rose cut diamonds comes in different shapes such as Round, Pear,
Marquise, Oval And so on, they usually have 3 to 24 Facets. Rose cut ha
ve a domed top and a flat
base. Rose cuts come in all kinds of color, clarity and sizes. Advantage of
buying a rose cut is
since it is flat on the bottom, the stone’s size appears much larger than its actual carat weight.
For example, a 6mm round diamond
would be around 0.9 carat in a modern round brilliant cut (a
traditional diamond) and around 0.42 carat in a rose cut. They look the same from the top view
since they are the same width, but the lack of the base of the rose cut makes it lighter so you
end
up paying less since it’s a lower carat weight.
